“The Plumbing Preacher Signature Water Filtration System: Engineered Protection for Bay Area Homes”

The Plumbing Preacher Signature Water Filtration System

Hand-Built. Layered. Monitored. Expandable.

Most filtration systems are installed.

Ours are engineered.

At The Plumbing Preacher, every whole-house system is hand-built using NSF-approved components, professional-grade housings, and a layered media strategy designed specifically for Bay Area water conditions.

This isn’t a box-store kit.

It’s a controlled water treatment platform built for performance, longevity, and transparency.

Engineered Layout: Protection Before and After the Softener

Our standard configuration uses a multi-stage approach:

• Two stages before the softener loop
• The softener loop
• Two precision polishing stages after the softener

Each stage serves a purpose. Nothing is random.

Stage 1 – Primary Coconut Shell Carbon (Chemical Defense Begins)

The first 4.5" x 10" transparent housing contains high-capacity coconut shell carbon.

This stage reduces:

• Chlorine
• Chloramine byproducts
• VOCs
• Taste and odor compounds
• Organic contaminants

Chlorine is aggressive toward softener resin. If not reduced first, it can degrade resin beads prematurely.

This stage protects your softener before the water ever reaches it.

Stage 2 – Secondary Coconut Carbon (Redundancy & Extended Contact Time)

The second carbon stage provides depth filtration and redundancy.

Why two?

Because disinfectant levels fluctuate throughout the year. Dual carbon:

• Increases contact time
• Improves chemical reduction
• Protects resin longevity
• Adds reliability to the system

This isn’t overkill.
It’s engineered margin.

Stage 3 – Softener Loop (Mineral Control)

After chemical reduction, water enters the softener loop.

Here, calcium and magnesium ions are exchanged, reducing:

• Scale buildup
• Water heater inefficiency
• Appliance wear
• Pipe restriction

Pre-filtered water dramatically extends resin life and keeps regeneration cycles efficient.

Soft water performs better.
Protected softeners last longer.

Stage 4 – Activated Alumina (Targeted Contaminant Reduction)

Next, water passes through a refillable 4.5" x 10" cartridge packed with activated alumina.

Activated alumina is a high-surface-area adsorption media used for reducing certain dissolved contaminants that carbon does not effectively target.

Depending on source water conditions, it may help reduce:

• Fluoride
• Arsenic (certain forms)
• Trace heavy metals

Because the water is already softened, the media operates more efficiently without mineral interference.

This is precision filtration — not cosmetic filtration.

And because it’s refillable, it’s serviceable and built for long-term ownership.

Stage 5 – KDF Polishing Media (Stability & Final Refinement)

The final stage uses KDF media, which works through an oxidation-reduction process.

KDF can help reduce:

• Residual chlorine
• Certain heavy metals
• Scale formation potential
• Bacterial growth inside filter housings

It stabilizes the water before distribution throughout the home and adds an additional corrosion-protection layer.

Transparent Housings – No Guesswork

We use clear, professional-grade filter housings.

Why?

Because homeowners should see their system working.

You can visually inspect:

• Sediment loading
• Media condition
• When service may be approaching

No mystery.
No blind operation.

Pressure Monitoring & Utility Hose Bib Access

Every system includes:

• Incoming pressure gauge
• Outgoing pressure gauge
• Integrated hose bib connections

These gauges are mounted to allow:

• Real-time pressure monitoring
• Early detection of filter restriction
• Accurate service timing
• System performance transparency

And the hose bib configuration allows access to:

• Soft water for washing vehicles
• Soft water for exterior cleaning
• Unfiltered water access for irrigation or plants if desired

That means you get flexibility built into the system — not just filtration.

Built-In Bypass for Service & Control

Each installation includes a full bypass assembly.

This allows:

• System isolation during maintenance
• Continuous water flow to the home
• Safe service procedures
• Long-term reliability

Professional systems are designed for serviceability.

Expandable Platform Design

This system is not static.

It’s expandable.

It can easily accommodate:

• UV sterilization systems
• Digital monitoring systems
• Flow meters
• Smart water monitoring integrations

Why Add UV?

UV sterilization is especially beneficial for:

• Well water users
• Homes concerned about microbial contamination
• Secondary bacterial control

UV systems neutralize bacteria and microorganisms without chemicals, adding a powerful final safeguard.

And because the system is already staged properly, adding UV later is seamless.

Built for Bay Area Water Conditions

Homes in Morgan Hill, San Jose, Gilroy, San Martin, and surrounding 408 / 669 / 831 communities deal with:

• Hard minerals
• Disinfection chemicals
• Aging infrastructure
• Sediment
• Emerging contaminants

A basic softener alone is not enough.

Layered, monitored, expandable systems provide:

✔ Longer equipment life
✔ Cleaner, more stable water
✔ Appliance protection
✔ Better performance
✔ Transparency for the homeowner
✔ Upgrade flexibility

Not Installed — Crafted

We don’t grab a system off a shelf.

We build each system intentionally.

We monitor it.
We explain it.
We design it for long-term ownership.

Because water entering your home should be controlled — not guessed at.

At The Plumbing Preacher, craftsmanship matters.

Whether we’re mentoring youth in the plumbing trade or engineering high-performance water systems, the mission is the same:

Do it right.
Build it strong.
Protect the home.
