The $7,500 Water Filtration Lie: Chlorine, Chloramine, and the Anatomy of Corporate Deception

Every day, thousands of homeowners walk into a big-box retail store or invite a slick, high-pressure water treatment salesman into their kitchens. They are shown a series of parlor tricks—precipitate tests that turn the water murky, or flashy digital readouts—followed by a glossy brochure boasting a definitive, certified claim: "This system removes 97% of chlorine! Eliminates bad taste and odor instantly!" And it works. The homeowner hands over $1,100 for a slick, online-ordered system that looks like a broke-down R2-D2, or worse, signs a finance contract for a $7,500 proprietary whole-house rig. Is it actually any better for your health? And crucially, for how long? Let’s stop the deception. Just because a marketing claim is legally compliant doesn't mean it’s honest. To understand why m...

Standing Together, Behind the Scenes Earlier today, Evangelina and I drove to town to deliver a gift. We were talking about the fact that she doesn’t go on camera with me—which many of you may or may not understand. When we first met, I never understood why she avoided social media like the plague. Sure, people are more judgmental than ever. Sure, the keyboard makes folks feel more brave than if we were face-to-face. But she is a beautiful, wonderful human that everyone loves, so I didn’t get it. To please me, she made a Facebook because I thought it was important to have her publicly show support for the mission. Before we knew it, she had 4,000 followers with no effort—and an inbox full of creepy photos and advances. Her Facebook automatically turned into a very uncomfortable place. So, although I believe that it is important for people to see a unified front on a mission like this, I must respect that her grace is more valuable than having her at my side in the public eye. She is al...

What’s Really in Our Water? The Unvarnished Truth About South Santa Clara County Water Quality If you live in Morgan Hill , San Martin , Gilroy , Hollister , or anywhere in the greater South Bay corridor , there is a hidden reality flowing through your home. Your tap water is not inherently "bad." It isn't toxic sludge. However, it is a highly complex, mineral-dense, chemically treated fluid. The cold, hard truth is that 95% of homeowners in our community have absolutely no idea what is actually pushing through their copper, PEX, or galvanized pipes every single time they turn on a faucet, take a hot shower, or run a load of laundry. My name is Shane Goodwin , founder of The Plumbing Preacher . After more than twenty active, hands-on years in the trenches of the plumbing and water treatment industries, I reached a breaking point. I could no longer sit back and watch how the corporate water treatment industry operates. I’ve watched big-name brands use fear-based marketin...
